Community

Ladyfest London raises money for valuable services in our community. This years’ recipient is My Sisters’ Place.

My Sisters’ Place is a safe, supportive community for women facing or at risk of homelessness. The programs address the underlying issues of mental illness, addiction, street involvement, abuse, trauma, health, poverty and hunger. At My Sisters’ Place, we believe in women’s resilience and welcome all women with dignity and respect.

Past recipients of the fundraising efforts were:

Safe Space, a volunteer run support centre for sex workers, allies and women in crisis currently operating out of EVAC at 757 Dundas. Their model is one of empowerment with the goal of meeting women where they’re at and helping sex workers operate with safety and with dignity. They hope to make real a community that strives to raise the basic living conditions of its most vulnerable and exploited members. They are open Monday and Tuesday nights, 6:00pm – 11:00pm and offer harm-reduction supplies, HIV & STI/STD educational resources, cosmetics, clothes, hygienic goods, first aid, food, coffee, tea, and information about current services in London. They recognise a woman’s right to choose or refuse sex work and we work to educate the public about sex work in London as well as promoting the decriminalization of sex work. They are currently looking for volunteers and donations.

Hope’s Garden
Hope’s Garden is an Eating Disorders Support and Resource Centre, offering a safe and supportive environment to people who suffer from eating disorders and for their families and friends.

Rock Camp For Girls

Rock Camp for Girls London exists to teach girls and young women how to: learn basic instrumentation on keyboards, electric guitar, bass guitar and drums, how to form a band, write songs and build self esteem through the creation of music. Many times musical equipment is a luxury that our campers and their families cannot afford. Due to a recent flood in the studio, summer rock camp sessions have been postponed. Relocating will be a costly expense. The support and donations from the community will help ensure that girls can maintain a safe, creative space to learn new skills, gain confidence and expand their musical abilities.

Sexual Assault Centre London

Sexual Assault Centre London provides services to survivors of sexual violence in London and Middlesex County.
Their staff and volunteers create safe spaces for survivors to be believed, supported and counselled so that they can begin to heal. Their services are about re-discovering strength, hope and joy both as individuals and as a community. A critical component of their work is helping women and girls recognize their potential as powerful agents of change – promoting equality, working in partnership and making a difference.
